Simple Tricks for Living a Long Life

As soon as one becomes aware of their existence and ultimate transience, they start thinking about how to achieve longevity. It is only natural; you want to have a good time, but also a long time.

One does not have to necessarily exclude the other.

So, what can you do to live longer?

  1. Don’t smoke or vape.
  2. Eat a healthy diet.
  3. Exercise.
  4. Maintain close relationships.
  5. Accept failure.
  6. Do a job you like.

Ditch Smoking

Before we even start the discussion, let’s get on thing straight. Vaping is not safe. First of all, no e-cigarette company has ever revealed a comprehensive list of their ingredients. They present their products as safer (not safe, just safer) than traditional cigarettes.

The fact is that the alternative also includes nicotine, which is the very chemical that attacks your lungs and wears them down over time. Reportedly, there is no tar in most vaping devices, but no one can confirm this. Studies have shown that smokers experience a 10-year decrease in lifespan compared to non-smokers.

Eat Your Greens

This is a great time to switch your dietary routine for good. Perhaps you could try out a plant-based diet to boost your immune system. However, if you do, make sure to include all key nutrients such as iron, minerals and vitamin B12. Most vegans and vegetarians struggle with iron deficiency when they first change their diet. Therefore, think smart and plan your eating schedule accordingly.

If you don’t see yourself becoming a “veggie” anytime soon, try to at least include plant-based protein. This provably prolongs one’s life expectancy. Consult a nutritionist or your primary care doctor if you are unsure how to adapt to a new diet.

Stay Active

It is a well-known fact that we should work out and remain physically active for as long as we can. Start your day by balancing on one leg for a few seconds, and then do the same for the opposite side. This will wake up your metabolism and force it to find physical and mental equilibrium. What’s more, your core muscles, i.e. pelvic, back and stomach, will work to make this balance happen.

Try to exercise for at least half an hour two days a week. Even the busiest of you can set aside 30 minutes on a Monday and Wednesday for some recreation. Do some cardio and a couple of exercises for the stomach, to get that heart pumping.

Build a Strong Social Network

Make sure to stay in touch with friends and periodically send them a text just checking on them. A simple message can make someone’s day in an instant. Do not take your personal relationships for granted. Reminisce with your long-time friends and keep in touch with those who live far from you.

The same applies to romantic relations. Work on your relationship, communicate and take care of each other. Talk to your partner and show interest in their life. You will both benefit from openly conversing regularly. Nourishing our friendships is key to happiness and in the long run, a healthier lifestyle.

It’s Okay Not to Be Okay

A lot of happy people have reported that they accept failure as a part of life. Expecting every day to be productive and every business endeavour to end up a success is naïve and self-destructive.

Try to teach yourself that every day is a new chance to try something new and that past failures do not define future ventures. Remember a bad day and remind yourself that a string of good ones followed. If you manage to adapt to the alternate good-bad dynamic, you will be on a great path to be a generally satisfied and happy person.

Take time to enjoy your hobbies. You might be a sporty person, so go revel in a tennis match with your bestie. If you are more of an introvert, you can stay at home and have a spin on video slot machines online. A spin or two on these highly popular casino games, either in freeplay mode or for real money, is a great way to unwind after a stressful period. Whatever your favourite activity might be, suit yourself and do it until you feel better. Simply, wait until the bad thoughts are washed away and proudly walk into a new day.

Occupations of People Who Lived to 100

Mark Twain once said, “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” We can testify.

People who did the job they wanted to do proved to live as long as 100. Edna Johnson, former Hollywood dancer and Blackjack dealer, is a fantastic example of this. She always did what she enjoyed and was good at.

A few days ago, Mrs Johnson turned 100. Therefore, money means little when you are not happy with what you do.
